The town of Hadamar commemorates the crimes that were committed in the former Nazi “euthanasia” institution. Currently, there are two places in the town that serve as reminders of this time; these places can be visited as an extension of the Memorial Museum tour, for example.

The Monument of the Grey Buses
In 2023, a copy of the “Monument of the Grey Buses” was erected in the immediate vicinity of the Hadamar train station. It commemorates the transports of patients to the killing centres during the “T4” programme which were predominantly carried out using buses painted in grey. The buses also drove to the Hadamar killing centre.
The monument was designed by Horst Hoheisel and Andreas Knitz in 2005 and was first erected at the Weißenau Centre for Psychiatry (Zentrum für Psychiatrie) in Ravensburg, the former Weißenau hospital (Heilanstalt Weißenau).
A panel next to the monument offers further information. The monument can be reached on foot from the Memorial Museum and visited at any time.

More InformationExhibition "Fates of Hadamar citizens during war times and the reign of violence" ("Hadamarer Schicksale in Zeiten von Krieg und Gewaltherrschaft")
Reflecting the diverse experiences that the citizens of Hadamar had faced during times of war and the reign of violence, a committee developed an exhibition as part of the town’s 700th anniversary.
The exhibition spans a political and commemorative arc from World War I to the present. The individual fates of fourteen Hadamar citizens provide cause for reflection across ten information panels.
Among them are the stories of Heinz Fahr, Paula Sarach and Maria Elise Depré which are connected to the Nazi “euthanasia” killing centre in Hadamar.
The exhibition panels are located at various places throughout Hadamar’s town centre. They can be reached on foot from the Memorial Museum and visited at any time.
