Beyond becoming a salaried staff member, there are many opportunities to get to know and contribute to the work at Hadamar Memorial Museum.

Guide providing educational services to visiting groups

In order to meet the increasing demand for educational services and tours, the memorial association Verein zur Förderung der Gedenkstätte Hadamar e. V. is always looking for adults who are interested in providing educational services to visiting groups.

The prerequisites to participate as a guide are a strong interest in the history of National Socialism and the Nazi “euthanasia” crimes as well as interest in communicating this history in the context of educational programmes that are tailored to a specific audience.

In addition to a workshop, guide training includes assisted self-study on the history of the site, developing one’s own guided tour and shadowing other guides within the framework of various teaching formats.

The educational team at the Memorial Museum provides support to guides, both during training and work. Further training is offered regularly to answer questions about content and teaching methods or to learn about new methods and concepts.

Further information and contact details can be found here.

Internships

The Memorial Museum’s various areas of work (research and archives, library, inquiry processing, education and teaching) provide a good opportunity for an internship. Together with the intern, we create an individual programme.

The prerequisite for an internship is having begun university studies in the field of the humanities. The duration of an internship is at least four weeks.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer remuneration or accommodation.

Please send us an individual application with the usual documents (cover letter, CV, certificates), your desired area of work and the exact period of time by email.

Capacity is limited, so unfortunately it is not always possible to satisfy all requests.

Voluntary service (BFD and FSJ)

It is possible to complete your voluntary service at the Memorial Museum. Each year there are several spots available via various agencies. These spots either fall under the category of the Federal Volunteers Service (Bundesfreiwilligendienst, BFD) or the Voluntary Social Year in political life (Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr im politischen Leben, FSJ-P).

The voluntary service lasts 12 months and begins on 1 August each year.

The fields and focus areas of the work assignment are:

  • Education and teaching: developing and carrying out guided tours, coordinating bookings, visitor services in the registration office
  • Research and archives: assisting within the scope of individual research tasks, library services
  • Press and public relations: assisting in the organisation and realisation of events, evaluating publications in the press, creating content for social media

Further information and contact details can be found here.

In providing these spots for volunteer service, Hadamar Memorial Museum cooperates with the following centres: Fachstelle Freiwilligendienste im Bistum Limburg as well as the Internationalen Jugendgemeinschaftsdiensten (ijgd). These websites provide information about the terms of a BFD or FSJ-P.
